Servicemembers and veterans face unique challenges dealing with financial issues, managing their money, and avoiding scams. For servicemembers, frequent relocations mean regularly shopping for housing and buying or selling a car. And servicemembers and veterans alike will navigate important financial decisions, like paying for education. For military folks, these decisions can involve high stakes with long-term effects on family and day-to-day life, security clearance, and mission readiness.
If you are dedicated to helping protect servicemembers and veterans – and you happen to be near San Antonio – you might want to save July 19, 2017. That’s the day when FTC staff will host the “Military Consumer Financial Workshop: Protecting Those Who Protect Our Nation.” We’ll work with partners to examine the financial issues and scams affecting military consumers and veterans from all branches of service and veterans.
The workshop will bring together military consumer advocates, consumer groups, local, state and federal government representatives, military legal services and legal clinics, all service branches, and industry representatives. The topics discussed will include auto financing, student lending, information security and avoiding scams. FTC staff also will discuss our free resources about financial readiness and fraud prevention – especially Military.Consumer.gov – for military consumer advocates and servicemembers and their families.
