Recently, the White House announced some initiatives the Administration is undertaking to improve the lives of the military and veteran communities. The FTC participates in several of these efforts, including the VSAFE task force that’s working to help veterans and their families avoid scams and other deceptive practices.
Some of those deceptive practices relate to the car-buying process. Over the past few years, the FTC has highlighted some of the challenges and confusion you might face in buying and financing a car — including figuring out charges for add-on items after the initial price negotiation — that can lead to paying more than you expected.
How does that relate to the military and veteran communities? Well, military consumers’ reports to the FTC put auto-related reports in that group’s top ten issues (along with identity theft).
Because the FTC is always interested in hearing about the experiences of servicemembers, veterans, and military families, especially when it relates to such a vital purchase, we’re asking you to share your story. What has your experience been when buying a vehicle? Tell the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.

It's tough being in a new state and place all together without reliable transportation. On top of the new adjustments in life as a military spouse it's more of a challenge to keep up with the right info to make informed, and financially responsible decision. I myself have been struggling with unreliable transportation due to the needs of my current position and location due to military life changes. Anything to help the efforts is very much appreciated.

I believe there should never be a Dealer Prep Charge. They do nothing to deserve this this fee on a new car.

Bought a new 2017 GMC Canyon. GMC should have done CSR 16019 HVAC Module Temp Door repair as per 2015's & 16$. My 2017 has the same door. GMC & Dealer refused to fix mine. It will cost me $3,000 to fix WHEN it totally fails. All for a $2.00 clamp.

Thank you for listening! I have reported the car dealership that is tryingbto bilk me out of money for a used car. The financer was well aware that my monies is connected to the military. I will be paying more than the sticker price of the vehicle when it was new in 2017! I will be telling the FTC in full detail at the link shown above. Thank you, Thank you
I'm a veteran of 28 years…
I'm a veteran of 28 years USN, 10 years active, and eighteen reserves. It's been 12 years since the last car purchase. I bought a 2010 Toyota Matrix S AWD in July 2011; it was Certified Used with 300 miles on the odometer. Currently, the vehicle is in excellent condition (the exterior paint still looks mirror-like); I've "babied it." Since purchase, every 5,000 miles or so I brought it to the dealer for service. However, at 88,000 miles, I started to have an issue with the transmission. I contacted Toyota USA, and they basically said that it's not their problem. I purchased the Toyota with the assumption that I would be getting 100,000 miles out of the car.
Thanks. I enjoy this!

I’ve had multiple negative experiences in the Baton Rouge area specifically dealing in automotive repair and dealerships. I would advise anyone conducting similar business in the area to refuse payment except on delivery of agreed upon services.
