July is Military Consumer Month. Once again, imposter scams top the list of frauds that military consumers reported to the FTC. Last year, more than 36,000 servicemembers, veterans, or family members reported an imposter scam. Of those reports, 11% lost money – for total losses of $34 million and a median loss of $900. That’s just for imposters scams. Learn more from Military Consumer and the FTC about avoiding imposter scams: https://go.usa.gov/xmetY #MilConsumer2019

Scammers pretending to be from the Social Security Administration (SSA) are saying your Social Security number (SSN) has been suspended because of suspicious activity or being involved in a crime. Your SSN is not about to be suspended. You don’t have to verify your number to anyone who calls out of the blue. And your bank accounts are not about to be seized. SSA will never call to threaten your benefits or tell you to wire money, send cash, or put money on gift cards. Anyone who tells you to do those things is a scammer. Every time.
